How EFT Helps With Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

EFT-PTSD
Anxiety

This article will briefly explain how EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) helps with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder cases.

EFT is a technique that is evidence-based and uses acupressure with modern psychology.

EFT has been validated in several clinical trials internationally. As a result its positive benefits have been recognised in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder in a variety of people.

Some of them, for instance, are defence forces abroad, victims of sexual violence and surviving victims of severe accidents.

They include road, fire, natural calamities as well as those of intense and extreme horrifying experiences.

Who developed EFT

Gary Craig developed EFT in 1995 and is a manualized method, leading to uniform application research, training, and clinical practice.

EFT is a healing method that combines elements of modern psychology, cognitive therapy, and tapping certain meredian points on the face and body.

What is the process?

The client firstly identifies a concern or issue they wish to address and secondly rates their level of distress on a Likert-type scale out of 10 (10 is the maximum amount of distress and 0 represents the minimum or a neutral state).

This is called a Subjective Unit of Distress (SUDS) scale and has long been used as a  measure of a participant’s discomfort in therapy.

This is followed by the tapping process.

Who can benefit from this Technique?

EFT has already been found to help in cases of anxiety, depression, anger management, exam stress, severe allergies and physical pain. Studies of EFT in the treatment of PTSD especially, show that up to ten sessions can produce results.

Moreover, EFT also exhibits physiological as well as evidence – based psychological improvements incorporating acupressure with modern psychology.

The results are more enduring that other known means of treatment and is more economical.

Lastly

In conclusion, systematic reviews and meta-analyses have demonstrated its efficacy for both physiological and psychological symptoms and EFT is a treatment process that can also be done online.

However, the treatment protocol, in some cases, has also been combined with sessions of psychotherapy in very extreme cases to produce results.
