Anxiety

Anxiety is a state of mind which often goes hand in hand with other mental conditions such as panic attacks, depression, stress, and a range of others. While a little anxiety is commonly seen in most people, it becomes a cause of concern when anxiety limits your thinking and reasoning power, distracts you to the extent of endangering your life, makes you prone to accidents or falls, and so on. A little bit of positive anxiety spurs you to give your best shot at whatever task you undertake. It is however, necessary for you to keep the negative anxiety under check.

Constant anxiety can have debilitating effects, both on the mind and the body. Hence, it is important to understand the cause of the anxiety and get the underlying issue treated as early as possible. This helps people get back to as normal a routine as possible in a relatively shorter time than without treatment of any sort.

Within anxiety disorders, there are multiple types based on the causes and symptoms present. The symptoms and causes of anxiety disorders vary from individual to individual. Hence, the treatment options also vary on a case to case basis.

Panic Attacks or Panic Disorder-

Panic attacks or panic disorders constitute one of the most common anxiety disorders faced by both men and women. These often mimic couple of symptoms of heart attack. Hence it is essential to have a clear picture of the symptoms of heart attack and that of a panic attack. This helps you equip yourself with the right techniques to ease the symptoms of panic attacks and reduce the time delay in case of a heart attack which is life-threatening if not treated on time.

Social Anxiety Disorder -

This is an anxiety disorder that manifests itself as a result of social phobia. It makes you feel overwhelmed about everyday social situations and creates a sort of social phobia. You get conscious about being judged or ridiculed by others.

Generalized anxiety disorder -

Generalized anxiety disorder is when you feel excessive amounts of fear, worry extensively, and get very tense about situations that do not actually demand that level of intense worry.

Symptoms of Anxiety Disorder

While some anxiety disorders have specific symptoms, most of these disorders have a few general symptoms which are listed below.

  • Shortness of breath
  • Dizziness
  • Inability to stay calm
  • Nausea
  • Cold, sweaty, and numb hands or feet
  • Tense muscles

These are few of the many general symptoms across anxiety disorders. The treatment plans however are different for each individual depending on the causes of anxiety disorders and the accompanying specific symptoms.

How do you treat anxiety disorders?

Anxiety can be treated through the use of medicines and other non-medicine based therapies. The most commonly used medication for the treatment of anxiety disorders in people is antidepressants. When opting for antidepressants, it is important to take them after consulting a doctor and obtaining a prescription for the same. One should never self-medicate for the effect could be disastrous if caution is not exercised.

Apart from the conventional medicine route, anxiety disorders can also be treated through alternative therapies which help relieve anxiety symptoms equally well. These alternative therapies such as emotional freedom technique, matrix reimprinting, bach flower remedies, and others are holistic approaches to healing anxiety disorders.
